Take 5 with "The Flight of Calvin Waters"

The 7th annual Oxford Film Festival is getting closer every day. Before we kick off another fun-packed festival, we thought we would takefive with filmmakers and get to know them just a little better.

Arjun Kaul's film, " The Flight of Calvin Waters," screens in the Mississippi block on Saturday at 3 p.m.

OFF: In 10 words, describe your movie and why someone should see it.

AK: It explores issues of race and civil rights and has many literary themes.

OFF: Biggest lesson learned in getting the film made? Best part in getting the film made?

AK: Biggest lesson: Prepare for every possibility and expect the unexpected.

OFF: Tell us about you. What is your movie making background?

AK: This is my partner, Andrew Colom, and my first film. Andrew is a writer; he majored in English and Creative Writing at Columbia University and received the NY Times fellowship, attaining his MFA from NYU in creative writing. I majored in English at Columbia University where Andrew and I met as freshman. Since then I worked for a law firm and for Matrix Promotions as a marketing and promoting project manager. Andrew and I are still close friends and business partners. We plan to continue to make films.

OFF: What¹s your dream distribution plan for the film?

AK: My dream distribution would be to have the film played on television and on the Internet to gain as much exposure as possible so that we may become privy to other ways to finance future projects.

OFF: What¹s the future hold in store for your film and for you?

AK: I hope that our film will be well received at film festivals and that we have the opportunity to meet more people who see our vision and want to be a part of our future projects.
