Take 5 with "Butterfly Rising"

Tanya Wright in "Butterfly Rising"

As we gear up for the Oxford Film Festival 2012 to be held at the Malco Studio Theater on Feb. 9-12, 2012 and also at the Lyric Theater on Saturday, Feb. 11 as part of the Oxford Music Festival line-up where we will show music films, videos and a panel on music + film, we thought we might introduce you to some of the people behind the movies we can't wait to show you. For the full schedule and description of the films, visit www.oxfordfilmfest.com.

Meet Take 5 filmmaker, Tanya Wright, writer, director and actor in Mississippi filmed narrative feature “Butterfly Rising.”

Q. 1: In 140 characters or less, describe your movie and why someone should see it.

A: Thelma + Louise +Magic #(equals) BUTTERFLY RISING! C it 2 learn how 2 make yur dreams come true

Q. 2: Biggest lesson learned in getting the film made? Best part in getting the film made?

A: Great people are your greatest assets. Great people are your greatest assets.

Butterfly Rising stars Ole Miss' McGhee Monteith and is the first full length feature to be shot in Columbus, MS.

Q. 3: Tell us about you. What is your movie making background?

A: I am an actor--I play Deputy Kenya Jones on HBO's TRUE BLOOD. For many years, I have watched many directors wring their hands in misery on set--directing was never, ever, ever, ever, EVER something I was interested in! Consequently, I wrote, directed, produced and co-starred in BUTTERFLY RISING--I have never, ever, ever, ever, EVER felt more creatively fulfilled than when I made this movie and wrote the book. EVER. I am a wicked multi-tasker. A Taurus. Straight shooter, Bronx born and bred. I am also a great lover of dogs (my rescue dog, Macarena, makes her star turn in the movie! Yeah!!)

Hates most: to be cold, wet and hungry. Not necessarily in that order. Depends. All three at the same time is the height of misery. But dark chocolate makes it better:)

The texture of a thing is important

Likes--no, LOVES--to dance! My dog's name, Macarena, is a reflection of that fact.

Q. 4: What's your dream distribution plan for the film?

A: I want as many people as humanely possible to see this movie; I hope it helps them as much as it has helped me. I envision a nice art-house run; I'd love to travel internationally with the film and for it to ultimately land at my current TRUE BLOOD home: HBO.

Q. 5: What does the future hold in store for your film and for you?
A: I next appear as an actor in the upcoming film PREDISPOSED starring Jesse Eisenberg (THE SOCIAL NETWORK), Academy-Award winner Melissa Leo and Tracey Morgan. As a writer/director/producer, I got tons o' stuff in the works: films, web series, books and games. Did I mention I like to multi-task??? LOL!
